Nigel Chippindale joined Sussex Circle in
1996 and became a principal in 1999. A former Director in
the Strategic Policy Branch of Human Resources Development
Canada, Mr. Chippindale spent many years working for diverse
federal government organizations including Employment and
Immigration Canada, Treasury Board, and the Department of
the Secretary of State.
During his career in the Public Service, Mr. Chippindale
worked on a range of policy issues, including post-secondary
education support, employment insurance, labour market development,
youth measures, research support, immigration, environment,
security, and Canada's representation abroad. He served as
the representative of Canada at a number of international
meetings on education, labour market, and related matters,
including those of OECD and UNESCO.
Mr. Chippindale's areas of experience in the public sector
include coordination and communication, education and lifelong
learning policy, human resource development, federal-provincial
relations, and strategic planning. His projects within government
and as a consultant have included studies, reports and presentations
for many departments and agencies on a wide range of policy
issues. He has prepared notes and papers for Ministers and
senior officials, presentations for Cabinet, reports to Parliament,
and papers on behalf of Canada for major international conferences.
He has also written or edited a number of major government
publications and communications materials, and has developed
and presented courses and workshops on management, policy,
and briefing skills for public servants.
Mr. Chippindale began his career in science, earning a BSc
in mathematics, physics, and oceanography at the University
of British Columbia. He went on to obtain an MA in English
language and literature and to undertake doctoral studies
in education administration. He taught business and technical
writing at UBC and the BC Institute of Technology before joining
the Public Service in 1971.
